Hey propips! Welcome back to another part of our MetaTrader Navigation series. In this tutorial, we are going to show you how to customize your chart’s candlesticks and color settings. Whether you want a cleaner look, a specific color palette, or just want to remove the grid lines, this guide will walk you through each step. Customizing your charts can help make your trading experience more comfortable and easier to read at a glance.
Step 1: Open Chart Properties
Start by hovering your mouse over the chart area and then right click. A menu will pop up. From there, select Properties, or just press F8 on your keyboard to open the same window.
Once the Properties tab opens, you will see the Color Scheme setting at the top.
Click the dropdown arrow to explore the preset color themes available. You can choose whichever color scheme fits your style or preference.
Step 2: Use the Detailed Color Settings
On the right side of the same window, you will find a more detailed color palette. This allows you to manually edit each element of your chart such as:
- Background
- Foreground
- Grid
- Bar Up and Down
- Bull Candle
- Bear Candle
For example, you can remove the grid by clicking the arrow next to Grid and choosing None. You can also change Bar Up and Bull Candle to Green, and set the Bear Candle to Crimson.
After you finish setting your preferred colors, click OK to apply the changes. You should now see your newly customized chart.
Step 3: Change Chart Style (Line, OHCL, Candlestick)
MetaTrader offers three chart styles:
- Line Chart – shows price movement using a continuous line.
- OHCL Chart – displays Open, High, Close, and Low prices.
- Candlestick Chart – the most popular option, showing price action with visual candles.
To switch between these chart types, simply click the toolbar buttons at the top. You can also use the keyboard shortcuts:
- Alt + 1 for Line Chart
- Alt + 2 for OHCL
- Alt + 3 for Candlestick
We recommend using Candlestick charts since they help identify patterns more easily.
Step 4: Save and Apply Your Template
Once you are satisfied with your chart design, hover over the chart again, right click, then go to Template and select Save Template.
You can name the file anything you want. For example, name it Profitech Design.
If you want this design to load automatically every time you open a new chart, save it as default. This way, whenever you open a pair from Market Watch and select Chart Window, your template will apply right away without doing it manually.
